The Beginning
Wilbanks was not created in a boardroom. It was built through decades of hands-on experience, relentless curiosity, and a genuine love for reptiles.
My name is Mike Wilbanks, and I have been keeping reptiles for most of my life.
As a kid, my room was filled wall-to-wall with cages stacked to the ceiling, each one holding something I had collected from the fields around my home. What started as fascination quickly became something deeper. I was not just collecting reptiles—I was learning them, studying them, and becoming completely absorbed in the world they opened up.
That passion took a major turn in 1980 when I obtained my first Burmese python. From that moment on, I was truly hooked. As my collection grew, I needed more space, so I built a building beside my house. Before long, I began breeding and selling animals, and I realized this could become more than a hobby. I could build a life doing what I loved.
I began breeding ball pythons around the same time the internet was emerging, and I quickly recognized the value of being able to connect directly with fellow reptile enthusiasts. I invested in some of the early high-end morphs and began building what would become one of the defining specialties of our business: designer ball python morphs.
Even now, what excites me most is the creativity and potential in genetics. There are endless possibilities in this market, and being part of that evolution has always been one of the most rewarding parts of the business.
